Shareware is a software marketing technique that has been considered for a long time considered as an efficient marketing tool. It originally started with young software developers and now being practiced by major corporations. It allows clients to try the software first before buying the full version. The efficiency of shareware’s marketing strategy has become very successful because of its eminently user-friendly approach.

There is a wide variety of shareware programs that allows the client to use the program by paying a nominal fee to the author. This fee is considerably lower than what an established store would charge for the software. This fully functional program lasts for a determined period of time after that it either stops automatically or reminds the user to pay through usually annoying pop-up window. The client then either pays for the program or stops using it.

Shareware distribution has its advantages and disadvantages. It gives the user an opportunity to evaluate an application before paying for it without any risks. The client does not have to pay if the program is not to his liking. A major advantage that this program gives is because of its ability to give instant gratification to clients. Since they download the program from the Internet, they can install it right away and do not have to wait for delivery. Smaller entrepreneurs find this marketing technique convenient because they do not have to pay or high-priced promotional campaigns. Customers can also communicate directly with developers when they need different enhancements or providing feedback that result in better software programs.
